SaaS roadmap: from idea to rollout
Launching a new enterprise application can seem daunting. Between cost overruns, lengthening delays, and useless features, many projects fail even before they launch. Here is our proven approach to avoiding these pitfalls.
1. The Discovery Workshop (Scoping)
Everything starts with understanding the real problem. Before writing a single line of code, you must map out current processes, identify friction points, and define measurable business objectives.
2. Define the Minimum Viable Product (MVP)
The biggest mistake is wanting to "do everything" in the first version. Focus on the core of the application: what are the 3 features that will bring 80% of the immediate value? The rest can wait for V2.
3. Iterative Development
Rather than waiting 6 months to see the final result, opt for frequent demonstrations (sprints). This allows course correcting along the way and ensuring the application truly meets the needs of end users.
4. User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
Before the grand launch, a small group of "key" employees should use the application under real conditions. Their feedback is invaluable for fixing the last bugs and improving the user experience (UX).
5. Rollout and Adoption
Going into production isn't the end, it's the beginning. A solid training plan and human support are crucial to ensure good adoption by the teams. The best software in the world is useless if nobody uses it.
